Job Title: Electrical Design Manager

The role
As a Design Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will provide engineering management for a major power distribution network upgrade within 14 Dock at Devonport.

Day-to-day, you’ll support the development, leadership, management and co-ordination of the technical design packages agreeing project related objectives, technical governance, managing performance of Engineering and Design resource and making appropriate technical management decisions.

  • Ensure that the design documentation covers the scope of operations required by the Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule and budget.
  • Ensure that the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied.
  • Support the 14 Dock Readiness Design Manager to implement the project approach to Health, Safety and Environmental issues as applicable to design.
  • Liaise with Engineering Services Design and Technical Authority to ensure that Relevant Good Practice is employed.
  • Interface with Nuclear safety – ensure a good interface and working relationship with the nuclear safety team

This role is full time 35 hours per week and is mostly remote, with occasional travel required to Devonport Dockyard.

Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. Essential experience of the Design Manager

  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment
  • Demonstratable experience leading a team; should have experience as Design Manager, Engineering Manager or Principal Engineer

Qualifications for the Design Manager

  • EIT or Chartered in another engineering discipline
  • Degree in a STEM Subject
