The Opportunity:

Laing O'Rourke is recruiting an Electrically biased Design Manager for an aviation / airport project in Greater London. The Design Manager ensures all design information is reviewed and delivered per procedures, considering program, buildability, safety, maintenance, and technical suitability. They oversee the production, control, and distribution of design information at various stages and ensure regular progress reporting.

The Design Manager is a senior member of the Design Job Family and Technical Function, ensuring technical excellence, assurance, and performance across projects, from pre-project to delivery. Our designers are part of our Engineering Enterprise, aiming to maximize the potential of design to increase project certainty.

What will the role look like?

• Supporting consultant teams to maximize effectiveness and value in integrated design solutions that meet client and business needs.
• Enhancing the effectiveness of consultant relationships.
• Reviewing design delivery to improve quality and efficiency across engineering, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and handover.
• Supporting consultants in adopting Laing O'Rourke's design processes, rigorous project management, and effective supply chain collaboration (including BIM/Digital Engineering).
• Capturing business knowledge to enable continuous improvement, innovation, and capability development.

Technical Capabilities:

• Creating and owning the design brief
• Design for Manufacture and Assembly
• Information and Change Control
• Design compliance

What skills & experience are we looking for?

• First degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent construction-related qualification with design experience.
• Approximately 5 years' experience, including managing design end-to-end from concept to handover, across different procurement routes and sectors.
