Job summary

Cobra Recruitment is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the design coordination and management of civil engineering packages on a major West London project. You will oversee multidisciplinary teams, external consultants and internal delivery colleagues to ensure design deliverables are met on time and in line with regulations.

The role requires a strong background in design management within a main contracting environment and proven ability to drive buildability and value engineering

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager in a main contracting environment.
• Strong track record managing civil engineering and infrastructure-related design packages.
• Experience on large-scale, technically complex construction projects.
• Excellent understanding of design coordination, buildability, and construction methodologies.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams, consultants and subcontractors.
• Strong knowledge of design programmes, technical approvals and project documentation.
• Good understanding of CDM regulations and construction health and safety requirements.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate the design process from design development through to construction delivery.
• Oversee civil engineering design packages, ensuring effective coordination with structural, architectural and MEP disciplines.
• Manage external design consultants, specialist subcontractors and internal project teams.
• Develop and maintain design programmes, ensuring key deliverables and milestones are achieved.
• Lead design coordination meetings, technical reviews and design workshops.
• Manage design information, technical submissions and approvals through BIM and Common Data Environment (CDE) systems.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant regulations, CDM requirements and project specifications.
• Work closely with commercial and operational teams to identify value engineering opportunities and resolve technical challenges.
• Identify and manage design risks, technical issues and programme constraints.
• Ensure design solutions are practical, buildable and delivered in line with project requirements.
