Your new company: Our client is one of the UK's leading family-owned development, building, and property maintenance companies. Founded over 100 years ago, they have a proud legacy in the built environment. They are driven by their purpose, 'reimagining places for people to thrive' and their three promises: Thriving places - working with customers, partners, and communities to create places that are more sustainable, inclusive, and full of opportunity. Thriving planet - protecting nature and taking action on climate change by collaborating and innovating with partners. Thriving people - creating opportunities and relationships so that everyone who works for and with them feels included, invested in, and treated with care. Our client is proud to be recognised as Gold Investors in People and as a Disability Confident employer. They also ensure that recruitment processes do not treat anyone less favourably due to an offending background.
Your new role: Design Managers are a valuable part of the business, driving quality outcomes, enhancing buildability, and fostering innovation. Design Managers work collaboratively with customers and industry specialists to ensure that the design develops in accordance with the brief, with a firm focus on added value, compliance, commercial viability, and best practice. As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for: working with all relevant parties to produce and manage a realistic design programme and the information required schedule to facilitate design, procurement, and construction activities. Collaborating with a Senior Design Manager and wider technical team to ensure smooth coordination across all disciplines. Supporting the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives and innovation. Ensuring the design has been reviewed and verified and that it is coordinated, compliant, and complete, whilst mitigating health and safety risks, design and buildability issues prior to construction. Working with internal and external stakeholders, consultants, and subcontractors to drive quality outcomes and innovative solutions at each stage of the design and delivery process.
What you'll need to succeed: Our client is looking for a Design Manager to join their Residential team in the Southern region and to support the design function for their Wokingham site, delivering new affordable homes to the local community. If you are passionate about design, working within a team environment and have proven technical skills looking for an opportunity to challenge the norm, bring fresh new ideas, and elevate yourself within the industry, then join them and help to create tomorrow together. This is a great opportunity to progress your career as part of a talented, diverse, and supportive team. We are looking for previous experience in the UK as a Design Manager or Technical Manager for a Main Contractor or a Developer that builds houses or flats. Ideally, you would have a track record of managing the development of a brownfield or greenfield site into new residential developments. You will hold some form of UK-based education at college or university level, ideally in a construction or engineering-related discipline, have the right to work in the UK, have a full driving licence, have a high level of communication, numeracy, IT & digital skills and a good understanding of the construction process. Attention to detail is vital due to the high level of compliance and governance required in the housing sector. You will be based full-time on site and be happy to work in an integrated site office on a new medium-rise development in Wokingham.
What you'll get in return is a competitive salary of £58,000-£60,000 and a profit share scheme, flexible working, Car Allowance / Company Car, Travel covered at any of their sites (subject to HMRC advisory rates). Extensive corporate benefits include Private Medical, Pension (8% employers' contribution), Health and Wellness programme, 26-day holidays + bank holidays, and much more. One of the best learning and development programmes customisable to support your career progression goals (c.7000 training sessions delivered year-to-date).
