Job summary

Ernest Gordon Recruitment Limited is seeking a Design Lead for sports infrastructure and field‑of‑play projects in the UK. You will own the design from concept through delivery, coordinating turf, drainage, lighting and related disciplines while overseeing multidisciplinary teams.

The role requires leading technical design, liaising with clients and architects, and mentoring junior staff to drive quality and innovation. Hybrid working, bonus and private healthcare are offered.

Qualifications

Design Lead (Sports Infrastructure & Field of Play)

£50,000 - £60,000 + Hybrid Working + Bonus + Private Healthcare

Are you an Design Lead from a civil engineering, MEP, building services or infrastructure design background? Are you looking to take ownership of technically challenging projects within an international sports infrastructure environment?

On offer is the opportunity to join a growing design team delivering sports infrastructure and field-of-play projects across the UK and internationally. Previous sports-surface experience is not essential, with the company looking for someone with strong engineering design experience who can lead projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.

In this role you'll lead the design of high-profile sports surfaces and field-of-play infrastructure projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams to ensure all designs are accurate, compliant, and delivered on time. You will act as the main technical point of contact for clients, architects, engineers, and contractors, while mentoring design staff and driving innovation.

Are you a Design Manager from an architectural background or similar looking for a role in sports surfaces, sports engineering, or field-of-play infrastructure?

The Role:

• Lead and coordinate the design of sports infrastructure and field-of-play projects through RIBA Stages 0-7, ensuring designs meet technical standards and client requirements.
• Review, approve and manage drawings, specifications and technical documentation, maintaining accuracy, quality and appropriate levels of detail.
• Act as the key design interface between clients, architects, engineers, contractors and internal disciplines, including turf, irrigation, drainage and lighting.
• Manage design programmes and deliverables, support project managers, provide technical input during tender and construction stages, and mentor junior design staff.

The Person:

• Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering, MEP, Building Services, Architecture or a related technical discipline, with professional accreditation desirable.
• Experienced Design Lead, Design Manager or Senior Designer from a civil engineering, MEP, building services, infrastructure or similar technical design background.
• Strong engineering design, multidisciplinary coordination and technical documentation experience, with proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D and BIM workflows.Reference: BBBH26910B
