Job summary

Kao Data is seeking a Design Manager to lead design development for new technology suites, DC buildings and campuses. You will support the operational team with upgrades and provide technical advice, while coordinating with internal and external teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.

You will manage a multidisciplinary design team across MEP, CSA, controls, fire and security, ensuring robust BIM/CDE strategies and commissioning processes throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject (mechanical, electrical or building services).
• Achieved or working towards professional certification (e.g. CEng, PE).
• Uptime Institute ATD certification desirable.
• Familiarity with data centre methodologies, standards and certifications.
• Extensive experience in design consultancy and design management.
• Experience in design/delivery of data centre engineering or mission‑critical environments.
• Knowledge of generators, switchgear, UPS, cooling, BMS.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Navisworks and CDEs.

Responsibilities

• Support on-site delivery of projects with design and operations teams.
• Lead design team to deliver accurate, detailed design packages.
• Define design requirements, programme and budget; develop design strategy.
• Manage design changes and liaise with consultants and contractors.
• Coordinate commissioning activities and handover documentation.
• Collaborate with operations, security, H&S, IT and other stakeholders.
• Review consultant proposals and contractor tenders; track deviations.
• Travel to sites in the UK or EU for factory acceptance testing.
