Overview

Design Manager / Senior Design Engineer / Department Manager – East Sussex (Hybrid role so national). Salary to c£60,000 depending on experience.

Our East Sussex based client has been established for more than 25 years and are globally recognised as market leaders in the design, manufacture and installation of innovative high quality stair solutions for supply throughout the world. They are now looking to recruit an experienced Design Manager / Senior Design Engineer / Department Manager to complement their established and highly successful team.

While occasionally undertaking bespoke staircase design from concept through to handover, the role predominantly involves taking an existing design from a leading architect and developing the design to construction, considering aesthetics, buildability, program, budget and sustainability. You will be responsible for specifying materials, components and finishes that meet the project brief, regulations and are commercially viable and available. As Design Manager you will work with the project design team while liaising with the company’s production facility in the Netherlands and installers in the UK. Meticulous document management and excellent client communication are essential to ensure contracts are complied with and variations are captured and agreed.

Responsibilities

• Develop designs from existing architect concepts to construction-ready solutions, considering aesthetics, buildability, program, budget and sustainability.
• Specify materials, components and finishes that meet the project brief, regulations and are commercially viable and available.
• Collaborate with the project design team and liaise with production facilities in the Netherlands and installers in the UK.
• Manage documentation carefully and maintain clear client communication to ensure contracts are complied with and any variations are agreed and captured.
• Maintain relationships with clients and external customers through effective communication at all levels.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience of using AutoCAD with Parametric modelling for 3D CAD (preferred to Direct modelling) or Autodesk Fusion 360.
• Knowledge of helical / spiral stair design.
• BIM experience.
• Familiarity with bespoke metalwork & architectural products and experience in the design of stairs and balustrades.
• Effective communication skills when liaising with internal departments, customers and suppliers.
• Project management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
• Adaptability and ability to work on your own initiative and multi-task.
• Proficiency with the MS suite of packages.
• Commercial awareness.
