Job summary

A leading project development and construction group seeks a Senior Design Manager for an upcoming highways project in the Midlands. The successful candidate will manage design activities, ensuring compliance with National Highways standards and deliver the final project design. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Civil Engineering and progressing towards a professional qualification, alongside a strong understanding of engineering principles and construction methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject.
  • Working towards or in possession of a Professional Industry Qualification.
  • Knowledge of National Highways standards and DMRB standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all design activities during Stage 5 and ensure compliance with National Highways standards.
  • Act as the main point of contact between design team, client, and stakeholders.
  • Monitor design progress and manage risks in collaboration with the project team.

Our Infrastructure team brings its design, build and refurbishment expertise to complex projects across the country, including highways. We are looking for a Senior Design Manager to oversee, coordinate and deliver the finished design for our next upcoming highways project based in the Midlands.

What you'll do:

  • Manage all design activities during Stage 5, ensuring alignment with National Highways standards and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
  • Act as the main point of contact between design team, client and other stakeholders to address design queries and secure approvals.
  • Ensure all design elements are fully coordinated by the designer and integrated across disciplines.
  • Monitor design progress and address any risks to delivery in collaboration with the project team.
  • Facilitate reviews of design submissions ensuring compliance and work closely with construction teams to conduct buildability and constructability reviews.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and design changes to the construction team.
  • Oversee documentation preparation and final deliverables for client handover.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering.
  • Working towards or in possession of a Professional Industry Qualification (IEng, CEng, IStructE etc).
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and common construction methodologies including National Highways Project Control Framework and DMRB standards.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts such as ECC NEC4.
