Job summary

FC Engineering Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Design Manager for an established engineering and manufacturing business in Cornwall. You will lead a CAD design team and oversee projects from concept to manufacture.

You'll produce and review 3D models and detailed drawings, work with production and project management, and ensure designs are practical and cost-effective for manufacture. The role requires strong leadership and hands-on design experience in a manufacturing environment.

Design Manager

Location: Redruth, Cornwall

Salary: £45,000–£55,000 per annum

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

We are looking for a Design Manager to join an established engineering and manufacturing business in Cornwall.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on Design Manager or experienced Design Engineer to take responsibility for an established CAD design team, overseeing the design and development of bespoke engineered products from initial concept through to manufacture.

The Role:

• Managing and supporting an experienced team of CAD Designers and Design Engineers
• Overseeing design projects from initial concept through to manufacture
• Producing and reviewing detailed 3D models, technical drawings and manufacturing documentation
• Working closely with production and project management teams
• Ensuring designs are practical, cost-effective and suitable for manufacture
• Managing design workloads, project deadlines and technical priorities
• Supporting continuous improvement across the design department

Requirements:

• Strong experience 3D CAD (Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, NX etc.)
• Background in mechanical design, fabrication or bespoke manufacturing
• Previous experience leading or managing a design team
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture
• Ability to interpret and review detailed engineering drawings
• Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills

Salary: £45,000–£55,000 depending on experience.
