Job Title: Design Manager

Business Unit: UK Construction

Reporting To: Divisional Design Manager

Office Location: Reading

Project Location: Thames Valley Corridor

Construction South is part of the UK Construction business, covering Wales, West, and the South East. Projects typically range from £5 million to £50 million and are mainly in the Public Sector, with some Private Sector projects. Sectors include Leisure, Justice, Defence, Education, Health, and Commercial Offices.

Role

  1. Appraise and ensure BREEAM obligations are met.
  2. Generate contractor proposals for submission.
  3. Set design deliverables for each consultant and CDP contractor, and schedule drawings, specifications, and other design information required for construction.
  4. For Design & Build projects, identify and agree on drawings/samples for client satisfaction and produce a programme of critical dates for client approvals.
  5. Monitor and report on design progress, statutory approvals, outstanding information, subcontractor design, and environmental/CDM issues.
  6. Review design information during tender and construction phases, and report on value engineering, statutory compliance, and contract coordination.

Skills & Experience

  1. Strong industry experience, either from an architectural or project management background, with experience in a similar role on projects exceeding £5 million.
  2. Experience with both design and build and traditional contracting methods.
  3. Effective communication skills.
  4. Technical and design expertise.
  5. Understanding of the design and construct process.
