A Tier 1 contractor is expanding their engineering capability and looking for a forward-thinking Design Manager to lead a team delivering a £100 million programme focused on reducing sewage storm overflow discharges across the West of the Anglian region. This role is part of a long-term environmental investment programme, addressing the region’s critical water stress challenges by improving river and coastal water quality through a combination of engineered and nature-based solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team delivering storm overflow and sewer infrastructure upgrades.

Collaborate with stakeholders to develop catchment-based, sustainable solutions that minimise environmental impact.

Drive innovation using the PAS 2080 hierarchy (Avoid, Switch, Improve) to reduce carbon and improve efficiency.

Manage project scopes, budgets, risks, and resources effectively.

Ensure design quality through the application of best practice, right-first-time approaches, and collaboration with internal and external partners.

Oversee supplier and subcontractor design integration and ensure alignment with safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and high performance across your team.

What We’re Looking For

A degree in Engineering or a related discipline.

Proven experience in wastewater infrastructure design – including gravity sewers, rising mains, pumping stations, and attenuation systems.

Chartered status or actively working towards it (preferred).

Strong project leadership skills, with the ability to manage design teams and oversee complex portfolios.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and inclusive approach.

A strong commitment to ethical leadership, environmental sustainability, and delivering public value.
