We are looking for someone who can lead the design processes on projects, ensuring the smooth delivery of high-quality capital projects that uphold the AELTC’s visions and values, align with the Wimbledon Master Plan, and meet the evolving stakeholder requirements and regulatory standards.

What you will be doing

  • The role supports the design management functions within the team, coordinating briefing, conceptual design, procurement, and technical delivery of projects.
  • The role works closely with the Estate Department.
  • Supporting the definition of Client’s Requirements, advising on procurement, overseeing design consultants, ensuring compliance with standards, and managing technical information.
  • Advising on legislative, statutory, or best practice in architectural design and technical aspects.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Providing high-quality support for The Championships, managing projects as directed by the Senior Project Manager.
  • Nurturing stakeholder relationships and collaborating with colleagues on estate development.
  • Advising on procurement, managing design teams, and overseeing design processes.
  • Negotiating fees, scope, and contracts with consultants.
  • Managing planning applications and statutory approvals.
  • Ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 and Building Safety Act 2022.
  • Reviewing technical and design information for compliance.
  • Maximizing efficiency of design workflows in collaboration with estate management teams.
  • Monitoring costs, schedules, and changes.
  • Defining and interpreting Client’s Requirements, supporting project brief development through RIBA stages.
  • Undertaking feasibility and redevelopment studies, presenting to the Estate Committee.
  • Supporting architectural design and project branding within the Master Plan.
  • Presenting projects for approval, preparing reports, and updating stakeholders.
  • Maintaining positive stakeholder experiences through effective communication.
  • Ensuring proper documentation, compliance certificates, and handover records.
  • Owning statutory compliance, including health, safety, and fire regulations.
  • Line managing staff as needed and contributing to the development of the Design Management discipline.

Role in The Championships

  • Participating in project activities during the Championships, including stakeholder engagement and validation of briefs.
  • Facilitating project handovers to minimize operational impact during the event.
  • Supporting stakeholders with recently handed-over projects post-event.

About you

  • Degree in architecture or related field.
  • Experience on high-profile projects and managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with design assurance workflows, budgets, change control, and contract management.
  • Knowledge of Building Regulations, CDM 2015, BSA 2022, planning, and sustainability frameworks.
  • Experience with project completion, handover, and operational transition.
  • Technical guidance skills and successful planning application experience.
  • Strong IT skills: AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Revit, MS Office, document management systems.
  • Project programming skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience as a Design Manager or within large multidisciplinary teams.
  • Registered Architect (ARB or equivalent), BIM experience advantageous.
  • Knowledge of historic and planning restrictions, and experience at a management level in architectural practice.
  • Interest in current trends and best practices in architecture.
