Job summary

JDL Recruitment partners with a leading developer to appoint a Design Manager for their London data-centre projects. You will lead design delivery from concept through to handover and manage multidisciplinary design teams and consultants.

You will act as the interface between development, construction, and planning teams, drive planning submissions, ensure compliance with building regulations, and present progress to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of RIBA design stages and the design-construction process.
  • Proven track record leading multi-disciplinary design teams from concept to delivery.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Solid understanding of planning legislation, building regulations and CDM requirements.
  • Experience working on developer or client-side programmes is preferred.
  • Proficiency with design management tools and document control platforms.
  • Membership of ARB/RIBA/ICE/CIOB or equivalent is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage design delivery across multiple concurrent projects from RIBA Stage 0 to handover
  • Appoint, coordinate and manage multi-disciplinary design consultants and advisors
  • Own and drive design programmes with timely issue resolution
  • Act as primary interface between development, construction, planning, and commercial teams
  • Manage planning submissions and approvals with planners and authorities
  • Ensure designs meet technical requirements, regs and internal standards
  • Review submittals, RFIs, change notices and contractor proposals
  • Lead value engineering and design risk workshops
  • Produce and present design progress reports to senior stakeholders
  • Support business development, due diligence and feasibility studies

Job description

JDL Recruitment are partnering with a highly reputable developer as they expand their newly forming data centre team in London, with a Design Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage design delivery across multiple concurrent projects from RIBA Stage 0 through to completion and handover
  • Appoint, coordinate and manage the performance of multi-disciplinary design consultant teams and specialist advisors
  • Own and drive design programmes, ensuring timely resolution of design issues and effective decision-making at each stage
  • Act as the primary interface between the development, construction, commercial and planning teams on all design matters
  • Manage the planning submissions and statutory approvals process, working closely with planning consultants and local authorities
  • Ensure designs meet technical requirements, building regulations, planning conditions and internal development standards
  • Review and approve technical submittals, RFIs, design change notices and contractor proposals
  • Lead value engineering and design risk workshops, ensuring outcomes are commercially and technically sound
  • Produce and present design progress reports to senior stakeholders and the wider project team
  • Support business development activity, due diligence reviews and feasibility assessments on new opportunities
Requirements
  • Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
  • Strong working knowledge of RIBA stages and the full design and construction process
  • Proven track record managing multi-disciplinary design teams from concept through to delivery
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage at all levels
  • Solid understanding of planning legislation, building regulations and CDM requirements
  • Experience working on developer or client-side programmes is preferred
  • Proficiency in design management tools and document control platforms
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (ARB, RIBA, ICE, CIOB or equivalent) is desirable
