Job summary

Galliford Try Building London Southeast is seeking a Design Manager in London. You will manage the entire design process, ensuring solutions meet customer requirements and framework deliverables across commercial, residential and mixed-use schemes.

You will lead consultants, identify risks and pursue value‑engineering to protect gross profit, coordinate CDP packages, assess CDM 2015 obligations, and ensure design outputs align with RIBA stages within programme constraints using the CDE.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering design on time, to budget and to quality standards.
  • Experience in new build and refurbishment across commercial, residential, mixed-use, hotel, city centre developments.
  • Experience managing designers and other consultants.

  • Manage the entire design process, ensuring solutions meet or exceed customers' requirements and framework deliverables.
  • Identify contractual, financial, technical and operational risks and pursue value-engineering opportunities to minimise risk and maximise gross profit while achieving customer satisfaction.
  • Support the safe, on-time and quality delivery of the contract pipeline.
  • Lead the appointment of design and associated consultants, ensuring contractual requirements are captured and deliverables clearly defined using tools such as the IRS, MIDP/Design Responsibility Matrix, Deliverables and Scope of Services.
  • Review and appraise fee proposals from consultants; manage and monitor consultant performance, encouraging a collaborative approach to deliver robust, coordinated designs on time and to budget.
  • Support and manage the development of CDP packages to ensure compliance and full coordination.
  • Assess consultants in line with CDM 2015 requirements, ensuring all obligations are met and designs fully consider health, safety and buildability.
  • Own all design processes and information flow on Design and Build and heavily CDP contracts, ensuring alignment of design outputs to relevant RIBA stages and meeting employer requirements within agreed programme constraints using the CDE.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience in new build and refurbishment across commercial, residential, mixed-use, hotel, city centre developments, traditional and D&B contracts and all building elements including sub-structure, frame, envelope, internal trades and MMC.
  • Experience managing designers and other consultants.
  • Proven ability to deliver design on time, to budget and to quality standards with high customer satisfaction.
  • Computer literate and commercially astute.
  • Strong time-management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Decision-making within authority and leadership ability within a team.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Construction or design-related HNC/HND/Degree (required).
  • Member of a professional body (CIOB, RIBA, RICS) (required).
