Job summary

Paxton Personnel Ltd is seeking an experienced Design Manager to coordinate design across civil engineering and infrastructure projects in the Scottish Highlands. The role involves leading design activity from pre-construction to completion and coordinating with clients, consultants and site teams.

The candidate will manage external designers, review technical information, and ensure buildability and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience managing or coordinating design on civil engineering projects.
  • Strong technical understanding of civil engineering and construction.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Ability to review and coordinate technical drawings, specifications and design information.
  • Good understanding of buildability and construction sequencing.
  • Experience managing design programmes and deliverables.
  • Knowledge of relevant design standards and regulations.
  • Understanding of CDM requirements and design risk management.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Relevant Civil Engineering, Construction or Design qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the design process from pre-construction through to project completion.
  • Work closely with engineering, operational and commercial teams to ensure designs meet project requirements.
  • Manage external designers, consultants and specialist subcontractors.
  • Review drawings, specifications, calculations and other technical information.
  • Develop and maintain design programmes and ensure information is delivered in line with construction requirements.
  • Coordinate design reviews and technical meetings.
  • Identify and resolve design issues that could impact programme, cost or construction.
  • Manage design changes and ensure they are communicated effectively to project teams.
  • Monitor design progress against key project milestones.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, statutory authorities and other project stakeholders.
  • Support tender and pre-construction teams with design input.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering and buildability improvements.
  • Manage design risks and maintain appropriate design documentation and records.
  • Ensure effective communication between design and site delivery teams.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Design Manager to join an established civil engineering company delivering projects across the Scottish Highlands.

This is a permanent opportunity for an experienced design professional to take responsibility for coordinating and managing the design process across civil engineering and infrastructure projects, working closely with project teams, consultants, clients and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

About You

We are interested in speaking with experienced Design Managers, Design Coordinators and Civil Engineers with a strong background in civil engineering or infrastructure.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Previous experience managing or coordinating design on civil engineering projects
