About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead and coordinate design activities on a major water infrastructure project in Chatham. This role offers the opportunity to shape and deliver essential civil engineering works, ensuring designs are efficient, compliant, and delivered on programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the multi-disciplinary design process across all project stages.
  • Work closely with engineering, construction, and client teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and buildable.
  • Oversee the production of design documentation and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers/designers.
  • Manage design risks, approvals, and deliverables in line with project requirements.

You will unite contributions from multiple engineering disciplines and leading a cross-functional team. Your responsibility will be to ensure that all aspects of the project are aligned, focusing on delivering the right technical solution that meets business objectives and project requirements.

You will act as a key liaison between various departments, including Operations, Environmental Enabling, and the Engineering and Construction teams, ensuring that all factors-such as operational impact, environmental considerations, and technical needs-are thoroughly considered in every design.

About You

  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong background in infrastructure and civils projects, ideally within the water sector.
  • Proven track record of managing design processes on large, complex projects.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (ICE or equivalent) is desirable.
