Location - Birmingham OR Oxford

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Design Manager to join an award-winning multi-disciplinary consultancy, this role can be located at their Birmingham or Oxford office.

Design Manager Role

The design manager will engage with a multi-disciplinary team to shape how design management is carried out on their projects. This role would suit a Lead Consultant or Project Architect wanting to step into a design management role.

Design Manager - Responsibilities

  1. Apply professional Design Management across projects.
  2. Show ambition and a willingness to work flexibly, both in their regional offices and on-site.
  3. Develop personal growth opportunities for the team.
  4. Maintain quality service by enforcing quality and customer service standards and recommending system improvements.
  5. A good understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work and experience through pre- and post-contract stages - RIBA 1 - 6.
  6. Defining design programmes, design deliverables and communications across multiple complex projects.
  7. Supporting the Lead Consultant in project administration and reporting.
  8. Leading design team meetings with internal and external consultants.
  9. Supporting Client technical approval processes and internal quality assurance.
  10. Leading the Design team to ensure projects are set up for success.

Design Manager Role - Requirements

  1. Degree Qualified - Architecture
  2. RIBA Chartered Membership
  3. Managing design teams and projects as Lead Consultant.
  4. Relevant design industry experience, with a background on large complex projects, such as Architecture or Engineering, ideally with chartered status.
  5. Be proficient in the use of digital tools to manage the design process such as MS Excel, MS Project, and document management platforms.
  6. Experience of defining BIM deliverables and design programming is advantageous.
  7. Be a pro-active leader of teams with excellent attention to detail.
  8. Be able to work autonomously on projects and have confidence in managing large design teams.
  9. Adaptable to work on a range of project sectors and scales.
