Location Acton, London
Sector Data Centres & Mission Critical Construction
Salary £60,000 - £70,000 + Package
A leading specialist contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to join its Alliance Park project in Acton, West London. The 1.95-hectare site is being transformed to support the construction of two new hyperscale data centres together with an office building, substation and major associated infrastructure.
With demolition already completed and significant utility diversions, remediation and re-levelling forming part of the enabling strategy, this is a technically challenging project where design coordination and buildability will directly influence construction performance.
You will lead design delivery from pre-construction through to completion, making sure information is compliant, coordinated, buildable and issued in line with procurement and construction requirements. You will manage consultants, designers and specialist subcontractors, maintaining the design programme and resolving interfaces before they become site issues.
You will lead design reviews, monitor approvals and manage change control while ensuring Employer's Requirements, Contractor's Proposals, Building Regulations and CDM obligations are properly addressed. You will work closely with commercial, engineering and delivery teams to identify value-engineering opportunities and reduce design-related risk and abortive work.
Throughout construction you will ensure approved information reaches the site team when required, provide support on technical queries and maintain oversight of as-built and O&M information. You will also build strong relationships with clients and consultants while supporting Design Coordinators and Assistant Design Managers within the wider team.
You are a Design Manager with proven experience delivering projects through both pre-construction and construction. You have strong technical knowledge, understand the importance of programme and information flow, and are confident coordinating multidisciplinary design teams in a demanding environment.
You have a good working knowledge of Building Regulations and CDM requirements and are comfortable challenging design information when buildability, cost or programme could be improved. Experience on data centres, mission‑critical developments or other technically complex projects would be highly beneficial.
You will ideally hold a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience, an appropriate CSCS Card and a recognised industry qualification through RIBA, CIOB, ICE or similar.
This specialist contractor provides comprehensive design, construction and engineering services across the data, defence and energy sectors. With more than 40 years of specialist experience, the business is trusted by major clients to solve complex construction challenges and deliver projects from early design through to final occupation.
