Job description

Mott MacDonald Bentley is recruiting for a Design Lead to join the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA).

The 330km SPA Project by Anglian Water is under construction and will be completed during AMP8. Additionally, there are further pipelines and infrastructure to be delivered in AMP8.

What will you be doing as our new Design Lead?

You will lead the design delivery for the Infra or Non-Infra elements of major potable water transfer projects (project value up to GBP200M). Collaborate with the Head of Engineering, Design Manager, and Senior Designers to understand design needs, then manage the design team from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.

You will work with delivery teams including construction, procurement, enabling, planning, and commercial to ensure efficient design delivery in line with constructability requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan and resource design activities, monitor workload, and lead the design team to deliver on time and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with project management, construction, enabling, planning, commercial, and procurement teams.
  • Develop relationships with AW Operational stakeholders for design decision-making and client sign-off.
  • Facilitate good information flow, e.g., via Technical Queries.
  • Guide your team to produce designs compliant with CDM regulations, minimizing safety risks.
  • Ensure survey works are specified timely for project delivery, including utilities and site surveys.
  • Liaise with Temporary Works Design.

Skills, experience, and behaviors:

  • Degree in engineering or related field.
  • Experience managing sections of design works in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience managing design phases of projects, including civil, mechanical, electrical, and control aspects, with a production methodology mindset.
  • Understanding of design interactions throughout the project lifecycle.
