Job Description:

My client, a well-established Fire & Security company based in St. Albans, is looking for a highly organised and proactive Design Estimator to join their growing team.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role within the Fire and/or Security industry. You should have a logical and structured approach to estimating and be able to build solid, trust-based relationships across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide estimating support on security and/or life safety projects, including product selection, tender quantification, and providing accurate costs based on industry trends.
  • Prepare detailed cost sheets, drawing markups, take-offs, and quotations.
  • Develop processes and strategies to maximize output without compromising technical quality.
  • Maintain accurate subcontractor and product market information for informed decision-making and to identify new products, technologies, and pricing.
  • Support sales teams with surveys, client meetings, and pre- and post-tender meetings as required.
  • Learn about customer needs, identify areas for improvement, and propose solutions to support clients.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of security and life safety systems such as Fire Alarms, EVC Systems, Evacuation Alert Systems, PAVA, Air Sampling, Atex & IS Systems, Gas Suppression, Access Control, CCTV, Intruder, PA Systems.
  • Proven experience supporting sales with detailed designs, proposals, and costings.
  • Experience with projects ranging from £10k to over £1m.
  • Ability to read drawings and understand specifications.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9-day working fortnight, Hybrid remote work.
