Job Description:

We are representing a large organisation who is looking for a skilled Design Manager to lead the design work for their Capital Programme.

This role plays a key part in delivering major infrastructure projects, including asset investment, customer connections, and network upgrades.

What You’ll Do:

• Manage the full design process from early planning through to construction and commissioning
• Lead and support a team of Design Leads, Engineers, Technicians, and Contractors.
• Deliver high-quality, cost-effective designs using both internal and external teams
• Ensure all designs meet safety, legal, and operational standards
• Oversee budgets and project timelines
• Work closely with senior leadership, contributing to strategy and decision-making
• Promote the use of digital tools and repeatable design solutions to improve efficiency
• Identify areas for innovation and process improvement
• Ensure all work complies with CDM regulations and company health and safety policies

What We’re Looking For:

• A strong background in engineering design, ideally within the power or utilities sector
• Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and large budgets
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Degree level or equivalent in engineering or science, or equivalent qualifications and experience
• Experience in a design management position
• Experience of power system studies, protection systems, cable, civil and overhead line design;
• Proficient in report writing
• Experience managing several project portfolios;
• Knowledge of Construction Design and Management Regulations
