AmcoGiffen is seeking a Design Engineer specializing in Temporary Works to join our North West team in Warrington. You will develop robust Temporary Works designs for rail and other infrastructure projects, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance across feasibility through detailed design stages.

The role requires a degree in civil/design engineering, experience in Temporary Works in rail or civils, and membership or progression toward ICE/IStructE.

Qualifications

• Degree‑qualified Civil or Design Engineer (BSc / BEng) preferred.
• Experience in civil engineering design (bridges, structures, stations or platforms).
• Strong background in Temporary Works design within rail or civils environments.
• Chartered or working towards ICE / IStructE at Chartered or Incorporated level.
• Experience in client, contractor or consultancy environments is welcome.

Responsibilities

• Develop technical solutions for Temporary Works supporting rail and non‑rail infrastructure projects.
• Collaborate with colleagues to deliver high‑quality, robust designs meeting client requirements.
• Apply sound engineering principles to propose practical solutions from feasibility to detail.
• Design and check Temporary Works designs and calculations.
• Produce clear calculations, reports and sketches aligned with Codes of Practice and Standards.
• Communicate design intent within the team and with stakeholders.
• Represent the design function in meetings with clients and partners.
• Support the team’s financial, quality and programme objectives.
• Promote safe working practices across all activities.

Role Overview

As a Temporary Works Design Engineer, you will develop technical solutions that support a wide range of rail and non‑rail infrastructure maintenance and improvement projects. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the business, you’ll contribute to high‑quality, robust designs that meet client requirements and uphold our commitment to safety, innovation, and engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Applying sound engineering principles to propose confident, practical solutions.
• Challenging briefs constructively to develop clear, innovative designs from feasibility through to detailed stages.
• Designing and checking Temporary Works engineering solutions.
• Producing clear, consistent calculations, reports, and sketches aligned with current Codes of Practice and Standards.
• Communicating design intent and requirements effectively within the team and with project stakeholders.
• Representing the design function in meetings with internal teams, clients, and external partners.
• Supporting the team’s financial, quality, and programme objectives.
• Promoting safe working practices across all activities.
• Contributing to the management of staff and projects as required.

About You

• Degree‑qualified Civil or Design Engineer (BSc / BEng / CEng).
• Experience in civil engineering design, such as bridges, structures, stations, or platforms.
• Strong background in Temporary Works design within rail or civils environments.
• Chartered or working towards professional membership (ICE / IStructE) at Chartered or Incorporated level.
• Experience gained within client, contractor, or consultancy organisations is welcome.
