Job summary

Arthian Ltd. in Central Scotland is seeking a Civil/Temporary Works Engineer to design temporary works systems and manage packages from concept to delivery.

You will support senior engineers, prepare calculations and drawings, and liaise with clients and site teams to understand project requirements. The role requires a degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, progression toward Incorporated or Chartered status, and a willingness to travel across the UK as needed.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in temporary works design.
• Good understanding of temporary works principles, construction methodologies and structural analysis.
• Experience producing design calculations and technical reports.
• Familiarity with BS 5975, Eurocodes and current temporary works practices.
• Strong communication skills with clients, contractors and colleagues.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently within a team.
• Proactive approach to problem solving and delivering practical engineering solutions.
• Full UK driving licence with flexibility to attend client sites.

Responsibilities

• Undertake the design of temporary works systems including propping, falsework, formwork, access platforms, excavations and temporary structures.
• Take ownership of design packages from initial concept through to delivery with assistance from senior engineers.
• Prepare and check engineering calculations, reports, drawings and technical documentation.
• Apply relevant standards and guidance including BS 5975, Eurocodes and industry best practice.
• Produce practical, buildable and cost-effective design solutions.
• Liaise directly with clients, contractors and site teams to understand project requirements and provide technical support.
• Undertake site visits, inspections and technical reviews as required.
• Coordinate multiple projects and manage workload to achieve programme commitments.
• Support graduate and junior engineers through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to quality assurance processes, health and safety compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.

About the Role

• Appreciation of buildability and practical site constraints.
• Familiarity with BS 5975, Eurocodes and current temporary works practices
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with clients, contractors and colleagues
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
• Proactive approach to problem solving and delivering practical engineering solutions
• Full UK driving licence with flexibility to attend client sites

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline (BEng/MEng or equivalent)
• Working towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status, or a desire to achieve professional qualification through the Institution of Civil Engineers or a relevant professional body
