Design Engineer - Motors & Generators

We are working with a local client who designs and manufactures bespoke products predominantly for the power industry. Due to growth, they are looking for a driven design engineer to join their dynamic CAD department. The successful candidate will have previous experience in designing motors & generators or heavy rotating equipment.

Job Overview

The role involves working with SolidWorks to implement electrical and mechanical design specifications into detailed manufacturing drawings for production. This could include complete machines or individual components. The engineer will liaise with production to oversee projects through to customer delivery and produce 3D models for analysis in Ansys.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Produce accurate manufacturing drawings.
• Create full assembly drawings & parts lists from manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks PDM.
• Modify and revise design drawings as needed.
• Understand engineering materials, properties, and manufacturing processes.
• Assist production with troubleshooting and design improvements.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate should have:

• A minimum of HND or equivalent in mechanical engineering or related fields.
• Experience with drawing office methods and practices, along with good factory floor knowledge of machining and assembly processes.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD systems and Microsoft Office.
• Experience with SolidWorks / SolidWorks PDM or similar CAD software.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently, both in the UK and abroad.
• Certifications in relevant training (advantageous).
• A full driving license and current passport (preferred).
