Job description

Our purpose is taking care of life's essentials, but we're also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care. AMP8, our next five-year regulatory period, will see us launch our biggest and most complex investment programme of almost £13bn, of which £6bn will be delivered through our capital programme. This is more than double the size of the AMP7 capital programme and is an opportunity to drive real change.

Our new Plug and Play approach will be a collection of common parts that can be connected in different ways and work together (like rigs or tanks). They can be mixed and matched to create a whole range of different products. Picture this as your ready-made catalogue of standard products. You can simply select the parts you need and then they arrive ready to go all in one.

This innovative approach will help to combat challenges related to waste and water infrastructure, flooding, and water quality. Be a part of something that benefits our communities, health outcomes, and the environment.

Our Plug & Play methodology will enable us to build smarter, faster, safer, greener, and more affordable projects. It could be the biggest challenge of your career. If you want to do more because you care, we'd love to talk to you.

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer

to work within our Plug & Play team, truly delivering for the future.

Everything you need to know

Do you have experience working within mechanical engineering? Are you a Design Engineer looking for a new challenge? Do you like working in a fast-paced and challenging environment?

You will be part of a team creating innovative plug and play designs for civils, from concept and optioneering through to outline and detailed design stages, coordinating multi-discipline input to support where necessary. You will deliver projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards, while developing the future design team.

Within this role, you will:

  1. Act as EA liaison during feasibility and feedback key learnings into future designs.
  2. Engage with stakeholders to understand the root cause of business problems addressed by the standard design.
  3. Review potential risks related to delivery and operation, including H&S, environmental, and commissioning risks.
  4. Conclude on the appropriate product solution and liaise with commercial teams for costing.
  5. Contribute to early development of commissioning plans.
  6. Ensure continual improvement of the standard plug and play solutions, capturing benefits, risks, and learnings.

You will ensure appropriate civils advice is provided for effective installation, enabling proper integration between the Severn Trent Product Team and Site Design Teams.

What you'll bring to the role

We value character, positivity, and a caring attitude equally with experience. We seek individuals who are proactive, committed, and caring, willing to go above and beyond.
