Job Description

The Design Engineer will execute design and project tasks as directed by the Senior Technical Staff. This role requires the capability to lead and manage projects for a small team or workgroup. The Design Engineer is also accountable for ensuring that all project deliverables are completed on schedule.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create models, assemblies, and engineering drawings for racing related projects.
  • Ensuring the projects’ goals are met from operational, performance, and efficiency standpoints.
  • Create and facilitate procedures to ensure that all issued drawings are 100% complete, error-free, and all tolerances are appropriate for the application.
  • Review project details, issues, and concerns with the Engineering Group during scheduled design reviews.
  • Ensure all projects are properly documented as required.
    • Documenting and reporting results and processes for projects.
    • Issue technical bulletins and/or manuals for the implementation of finished projects.
  • Work with other engineers as a team and provide guidance on design and analysis.
  • Work with mechanics and technicians in a hands-on environment.
  • Conduct physical testing of parts and systems.
  • Attend weekly engineering meetings as scheduled by the Design Manager.
  • Attend race or test events as needed – not a full-time traveling position.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Experience with Siemens Suite, inclusive of NX and Teamcenter, is preferred. It is highly desirable that the candidate have motorsports-related design experience. Bachelor’s level Engineering Technology degrees with be considered on a case-by-case basis. Experience in the following areas will be an advantage:

  • Design of highly loaded mechanical systems and components. Examples include suspension, chassis and steering systems.
  • FEA backed up with hand calculations, and knowledge of practical FEA application.
  • Material selections based on component operating conditions and manufacturing considerations.
  • Modern, low-volume manufacturing methods: hand fabrication, machining, casting, EDM, composites, rapid prototyping.
  • Understanding of dampers, hydraulics, and fluid systems.
  • Understanding of gearboxes and powertrains.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics.
  • Composite design and surfacing skills.
  • Understanding of general metrology measurement equipment.
  • 3+ years of motorsports experience preferred.
