Job summary

Honeywell Aerospace in Redditch is seeking a Design Engineer to join its mechanical design team. You will perform design calculations, tolerance analysis and produce layouts and detail drawings using Siemens NX for cryocoolers and JT coolers used in missiles and space applications.

You will support production, participate in design reviews, modify existing designs and collaborate with manufacturing and procurement.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering degree is required.
• Experience in aerospace/defense design environment is preferred.
• Design experience with mechanical or pneumatic equipment.
• Ability to work in cross-functional engineering, manufacturing and procurement teams.
• Demonstrated decision making, strong communication and presentation skills.
• High attention to detail with self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Conduct design calculations such as tolerance stacks and simple stress analysis; maintain concise records.
• Create design layouts and drawings using CAD for Stirling Cryocoolers and JT Coolers for missiles and space applications.
• Provide engineering support for production, test, reliability and cost-reduction activities.
• Support meetings with customers and the project team.
• Modify existing designs and contribute to process improvements across Honeywell teams.

Design Engineer - Honeywell Aerospace, Redditch

Duties and responsibilities

• Conduct design calculations such as tolerance stacks, simple stress analysis and maintain concise engineering records in accordance with Mechanical Design command media
• The creation of design layouts, assembly and detail drawings using a CAD tool for Stirling Cryocoolers used in missiles applications and Joule-Thomson (JT) Coolers used in space satellite applications
• Engineering support (via email, meetings and telephone) for production build and test, reliability and cost reduction activities on in-service equipment, evaluating and implementing change requests
• Supporting in meetings with customers and the project team
• Modification of existing designs
• Opportunities exist occasionally to support other Honeywell global design teams implementing process improvements such as design standards and tools.

Education/Experience Required

• Mechanical Engineering degree
• Experience in the aerospace / defense design environment using Siemens NX CAD is preferable
• Design experience of mechanical or pneumatic equipment
• The ability to work as part of a cross functional engineering, manufacturing and procurement team
• Demonstrative decision making skills
• Excellent communication and presentation skills are required for formal and informal design reviews
• Strong attention to detail, self motivation and the ability to work with minimum supervision
