Job summary

Makefast in Newtown is seeking a Design Engineer to join its expanding design team. You will design and develop new products, modify existing designs, and take concepts through to manufacture in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

You will produce 3D models and detailed drawings, create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), and work closely with Production and other departments to ensure designs are practical, cost‑effective and manufacturable.

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience using 3D CAD software, with SolidWorks desirable.
• Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes and design for manufacture.
• Ability to produce clear engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical skills and ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop new products and modify existing designs.
• Produce 3D models and detailed engineering drawings.
• Manage projects from concept through manufacture.
• Collaborate with Production and other departments to ensure manufacturability.
• Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Support tooling, jigs and fixtures design.
• Resolve technical and manufacturing issues.
• Consider materials, manufacturing methods, quality and cost.
• Contribute to product development and continuous improvement.
