Job description

Design Engineer - Fire Suppression Systems

3 Month contract initially

Based in Sunbury on Thames with hybrid working opportunities. Some occasional travel to other UK sites may be required.

Key Competencies
  1. LPCB qualifications - ideally all 3 (Basic, Intermediate & FHC) if possible
  2. Good level of design experience in the Industrial / Commercial Sprinkler industry, and good knowledge of the recognised design standards - LPCB, NFPA & FM.
  3. Autocad & Revit user, plus experience of a hydraulics package (Canute is the most common in the market)
What you will do:

As a post order design engineer you will be ultimately responsible for Fire Suppression design elements in supporting the business on the regional projects.

You will be part of the Regional Fire Suppression Design Team based out of our Sunbury office, with the opportunity of hybrid remote working based on experience as agreed with your Design Manager.

On occasion it will be necessary to travel to sites around the UK to perform site surveys, complete progress reviews, mark up drawings and attend client design meetings, as required.

This role is within our Fire Suppression Post order design team who provide engineered design solutions for all manner of mechanical fire protection systems including sprinklers and gaseous extinguishing systems, as well as using foam, deluge and Watermist applications. These systems are vital to both life safety and property protection from fire in a wide variety of market sectors from warehousing to schools, offices to manufacturing facilities.

The post order designers are responsible for taking the customer brief/specification and developing a system design that coordinates with the building structure, complies with the applicable design standards and meets the facilities fire protection requirements. Full technical/engineered drawings are produced by the designer showing the fire protection system layout and details, along with hydraulic calculations to prove performance. Applications used to produce these drawings include Autocad, Hydraulics Software and Revit (3D).

As well as the design aspects of the role, knowledge and awareness of construction sites and general mechanical pipework arrangements also form a key part of the designer's role.

Ability to have an objective and proactive approach in reviewing detailed designs to provide value-engineered solutions where required and to produce technical submittals with complete detailed schematics & drawings to meet with design criteria.

Experience / Knowledge
  1. Fire Suppression Design knowledge utilising LPCB rules, NFPA and FM Global standards
  2. Design specifications / Presentational Packages
  3. Working with and producing contractual documentation
  4. AutoCAD experience required
  5. LPCB Basic qualification required as a minimum
  6. BIM experience preferred
