Job summary

Ernest-Gordon-Recruitment-Limited is seeking a Design Engineer (Deck Equipment / Structural / FEA / Mathcad) in Aberdeen. You will lead mechanical design and analysis for high‑value lifting and offshore equipment, delivering design packages, calculations and drawings to code standards.

You will use Mathcad and FEA tools to verify concepts and support fabrication, testing and operation of carousels, tensioners and reel drives within a close‑knit team.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified Mechanical or Marine Engineer preferred or HND with relevant experience.
• Experience in design of lifting equipment and deck machinery.

Responsibilities

• Undertake mechanical engineering activities across projects and do design calculations.
• Prepare drawings and reports to recognised codes (DNV, Lloyds, AISC, PUWER, LOLER).
• Perform mechanical analysis using Mathcad, Staad/FEA software.
• Support factory acceptance and compile design packages.
• Lead component selection for carousels, winches and reel drives.
• Collaborate with team across design, fabrication and operations.

Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with a background in the oil and gas industry, industrial lifting equipment or deck machinery, looking for a varied and hands‑on role within an Engineering Consultancy that supplies tailored solutions, equipment and personnel packages for the global energy sectors?

Are you looking to become immersed and take the lead as an integral part of the Design Team, where you will be responsible for effectively delivering assigned design ventures of high-value projects across a range of applications within the lifting and offshore sectors?

On offer is the opportunity to work within a close-knit design team, where you will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise to support the design, fabrication, and operation of equipment such as Carousels, Tensioners, Reel drives, Handling Equipment, Winches and associated machinery.

The Role

• Undertake mechanical engineering activities across projects, including equipment design, design verification and lifting analysis
• Prepare, check and/or approve design calculations, reports, manufacturing drawings, layout drawings, and associated documentation to recognised codes and standards (e.g., DNV, FEM, Lloyds, AISC, LOLER, PUWER, HSAW)
• Carry out mechanical analysis and calculations using software such as FS2000/Staad, Mathcad and FEA software
• Collaborate and contribute to the compilation of Factory acceptance documents
• Generate engineering documents in the form of design packages, reports and technical notes
• Drive component selection for equipment such as Carousels, Tensioners, Reel Drives, Handling Equipment, Winches and associated equipment

The Person

• Degree-qualified Mechanical or Marine Engineer preferred, or minimum HND in Mechanical or Marine Engineering discipline backed with a high level of relevant experience
• Proven experience in mechanical design of equipment such as Carousels, Winches, Electro-hydraulic handling equipment, Tensioners and Reel Drive Systems
