Solar Careers UK, part of Solar Energy UK, representing 425+ solar businesses, is assisting in recruiting full-time, permanent installation teams across the UK.

The role involves working within the renewable energy sector, designing and reviewing Solar PV plants and integrating Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS).

Responsibilities:

  • Systems specification, design, documentation, and review per ISO / IEC / BS standards, including IET PV CoP, BS 7671 18th Edition
  • Developing customer-specific photovoltaic concepts, detailed design, and implementation planning including yield simulations
  • Authorizing, reviewing, and amending LV, SLD, and schematics
  • Designing and reviewing electrical protection schemes
  • Assessing grid compliance and earthing reports, liaising with consultants and manufacturers
  • Designing LV electrical equipment, including UPS, cables, meters, CTs, switchgear, transformers, inverters
  • Performing cable sizing and optimization calculations, issuing schedules for procurement and installation
  • Analyzing survey results for system design and piling locations
  • Designing within planning and flood risk constraints, supporting planning applications
  • Evaluating technical options for mounting systems and modules considering local conditions
  • Ensuring design compliance with planning and structural requirements
  • Providing technical support during sales, procurement, construction, and implementation phases
  • Collaborating with DNO, procurement, operations, legal, and project teams
  • Designing and reviewing earthing systems and LPS
  • Reviewing BESS proposals, including inverter and cell technology, sizing, and optimization
  • Issuing commissioning and operational instructions, maintaining document control
  • Designing systems for energy flow monitoring, inverter parameters, export limitations, and load monitoring
  • Interpreting standards and documenting their applicability to EPC designs
  • Conducting engineering calculations and data analysis on plant performance
  • Reviewing and issuing reports as a technical advisor
  • Conducting site surveys, inspections, and checking As-Built documents
Requirements
Experience:
  • Designing Solar PV systems at commercial or utility scale
  • Knowledge of inverter specs, array sizing, yield optimization, module selection, and component assessment
  • Proficient in electrical systems design, including power circuits, SCADA, and communication systems
  • Understanding of ENA recommendations (P28, G59/G99, G100) and solutions to meet them
  • Familiar with electrical design software for cable sizing and protection
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, PVSyst/PVSol, MS Office (Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)
Education:
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in STEM, preferably Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience/certification
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g., Chartered Engineer) is desirable
