Job Description

PE Global is currently recruiting for a Design Engineer (air and fuel system components) for a leading manufacturer of construction, mining equipment, engines, turbines, and locomotives based in Peterborough. This is a 12-month contract role, requiring 5 days on site. Pay Rate: £35.97ph PAYE or £48.82ph Umbrella.

Duties of the role/Responsibilities

  1. Design, plan, and deliver air/fuel system/component development projects to meet time, cost, and quality goals.
  2. Communicate design and project status, including key issues, to peers, stakeholders, and management.
  3. Lead design reviews to gain cross-functional support for new designs, supplier nominations, and capital investments.
  4. Collaborate with suppliers to develop specifications and deliver quality solutions through APQP.
  5. Assess technical risks via FMEA; coordinate simulation and validation activities (DVP&R).
  6. Investigate and resolve technical issues using 8D methodology.
  7. Work with Product Management to understand customer needs and design requirements.
  8. Write and review technical information and reports to support production design release.
  9. Collaborate with global teams to implement engineering solutions worldwide.
  10. Reflect on lessons learned, using Lean methodology to identify improvement opportunities.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent knowledge/experience).
  • 6-8 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, engine components, and/or systems.
  • Design experience with CAD (Creo) and PLM systems (Teamcenter).
  • Experience designing powertrain and/or engine components.
  • Support peer reviews and collaborate to develop robust solutions.
  • Use research techniques to independently solve problems.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing principles and processes.
