An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer at Walker Filtration. The main purpose of this role is to ensure that class-leading new and innovative products are developed on time and within budget, aligned with customer requirements and business growth expectations.

This is a challenging and exciting role in a dynamic and growing organization, working as part of the Design Team and reporting to the Engineering Manager. The role involves hands-on design work as well as leadership and management of engineering deliverables within project teams.

The position is a valued member of the Engineering team, involving extensive cross-functional interaction throughout all stages of product development, research, pre-development, and post-manufacturing support.

As part of the Engineering team, you will create innovative designs to expand our product portfolio and maintain existing ranges, focusing on optimization. The role requires collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams at all stages of product development and serial production.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, and implement innovative and competitive new products and extensions.
  • Maintain technical documentation, including CAD drawings, costing data, technical files, calculations, BOMs, specifications, marketing info, and test data.
  • Meet deadlines, ensure high-quality engineering output, and keep design files updated.
  • Maintain and improve existing products and components.
  • Participate actively in projects, providing engineering support and input.
  • Contribute to product cost estimation, including materials, equipment, labor, and logistics.
  • Identify cost savings and performance improvements through continuous review.
  • Ensure product approvals and legislative compliance.
  • Provide management updates and technical reports as needed.
  • Offer technical support internally and externally, including site visits nationally and internationally.
  • Assist Engineering Management as required.

Attributes and Criteria:

  • Minimum 3 years in a similar engineering or technical design role within manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of pressure vessel design codes such as ASME BPVC and PED is desirable.
  • Experience with detailed design, DFMEA, problem-solving, and design for manufacturing.
  • Experience with cast and molded components.
  • Knowledge of compressed air systems and filtration is advantageous.
  • Proven ability in technical report writing.

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or design field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor and/or SolidWorks.
  • Competency in MS Office, especially Word, Excel, and MS Project.

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive.
  • Decisive with strong technical and commercial judgment.
  • Capable of multitasking and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Confident communicator, capable of delivering technical information effectively.
