Job summary

Hale Hamilton (Valves) Limited, part of CIRCOR’s Aerospace and Defence Division, invites applications for a Design Engineer in our Uxbridge site. You will design, analyse and develop pressure control and fluid system products for defence and industrial applications, producing robust drawings and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in mechanical design engineering environment advantageous.
  • Experience producing engineering designs, calculations and documentation.
  • Experience in design and manufacture of pressure equipment desirable.
  • Strong 3D CAD and 2D drawing skills (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to perform calculations.
  • Understanding of engineering principles, materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and ownership of assigned work essential.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis using in-house and third-party tools (e.g. Simulink, MathCAD, ANSYS).
  • Apply GD&T and engineering standards to ensure robust, manufacturable designs.
  • Produce engineering documentation including calculations, reports and technical submissions.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications and translate requirements into engineering solutions.
  • Deliver assigned work to agreed timescales, proactively communicating risks, issues and support requirements.
  • Support prototype design, build and testing activities.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Quality to resolve production and product issues.
  • Support existing products through design improvements, issue resolution and lifecycle management.
  • Participate in technical reviews and maintain accurate engineering records.
  • Engage professionally with customers and internal stakeholders when required.

Hale Hamilton (Valves) Limited, part of CIRCOR’s Aerospace and Defence Division, is a leading manufacturer of pressure and flow control solutions for application on various Submarine and Surface Ship platforms in the Defence market (Astute, Dreadnought, Type 23, 45, et al) and for application in Industrial segments such as Renewable Energy, Industrial Gas and Power.

For our location in Uxbridge, in the Greater London area, we are looking for a Design Engineer.

Position Summary

The Design Engineer will support the design, analysis and development of pressure control and fluid system products for defence and industrial applications. The role is responsible for producing engineering designs, calculations, technical documentation and manufacturing drawings, while supporting product development, production activities and continuous improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Projects to deliver robust engineering solutions to agreed quality, cost and delivery requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis using in-house and third-party tools (e.g. Simulink, MathCAD, ANSYS).
  • Apply GD&T and engineering standards to ensure robust, manufacturable designs.

  • Experience within a mechanical design engineering environment would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience in producing engineering designs, calculations and technical documentation.
  • Experience in the design and manufacture of pressure equipment is highly desirable.
  • Strong 3D CAD and 2D drawing skills (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to perform engineering calculations.
  • Sound understanding of engineering principles, materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A proactive approach, strong technical skills and a commitment to engineering excellence are essential.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and willing to take ownership of assigned work.
What Makes You Stand Out
  • Experience within the UK defence or naval sector (BPSS clearance or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience with valves, pressure control or fluid system products.
  • Knowledge of compressible fluid flow, high-pressure gas systems and pressure control products.
  • Understanding of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
  • Experience of working within a regulated manufacturing or engineering environment.
