Position: Design Engineer

As a design engineer, you'll develop ideas for new products and production systems. You'll also improve the performance and efficiency of existing products.

Qualifications: Candidates should ideally have a degree and a minimum of 3 years of industrial experience. However, candidates with alternative qualifications and relevant engineering design experience will also be considered for the role.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design: Turn research ideas into detailed production designs and re-engineer existing designs for better manufacturability.
  2. Reporting: Write or present engineering reports and produce production specifications and drawings.
  3. Compliance & Standards: Gain knowledge of trailer legislation and safety standards, applying them to designs.
  4. Mentoring: Support junior design engineers.
  5. Continuous Improvement: Apply methodologies and lean manufacturing principles.
Requirements to Succeed:
  1. Strong problem-solving skills and teamwork abilities.
  2. Practical hands-on approach.
  3. Proficiency with 2D & 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk products.
  4. Knowledge of MS Office and in-house computer systems.
  5. Understanding of stress/loading calculations and FEA.
  6. Familiarity with fatigue and induced stress analysis.
  7. Good grasp of engineering and design principles.
  8. Understanding of trailer manufacturing processes or similar heavy engineering.
  9. Awareness of customer needs and cost implications.
  10. Willingness to work outside normal hours when needed.
  11. Excellent communication skills and ability to produce high-quality designs.
  12. Honesty, punctuality, and dependability.
  13. Knowledge of health and safety policies.
  14. Legal right to work in the UK; proof will be required.
