Job description

For many fans of Formula One, the sport exists between lights and chequered flag on a Sunday afternoon. It begins and ends with the exploits of the drivers on the track. But this is merely the tip of the spear. The reality of modern F1 is that of a complex and intertwined operation, every part of which needs to perform near its limit if success is to be achieved. From the pit crew searching for the ultimate repeatable pit stop, to the inspiration of the designers, the application of engineers and the herculean efforts of an army of fabricators and machinists. Much of our success is thanks to the diversity of thought and spectrum of skill sets held within the team, our ability to recognise unique contributions from individual team members is just a part of why we love what we do.

Job Description

Red Bull Powertrains is excited to offer opportunities to join our technical office as we transition from building our team’s first Power Units to refining them into a race-ready package, all aimed at delivering the most competitive car on the 2026 Formula One grid. We are seeking multiple Mechanical Design Engineers to join our Mechanical Design ICE Team and drive the future of motorsport innovation. You will be based at our cutting-edge engineering and manufacturing facility in Milton Keynes, designed to produce high-performance Power Units for the 2026 engine regulations.

In a rapidly changing regulatory environment, you will be required to apply physics from first principles and knowledge of cutting-edge technology to create high-performance PU hardware.

Key responsibilities of our Mechanical Design Engineers

  1. Delivering engineering solutions to the agreed specification, program plan, and cost.
  2. Investigating, containing, and resolving faults to ensure there is no negative impact to the running of Power Units.
  3. Creating, collating, and communicating the engineering direction to key stakeholders.
  4. Creating and releasing detailed engineering models and technical drawings using Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  5. Removing mechanical limitations to performance development and deployment.
  6. Actively contributing to the team’s and department’s development.

Essential competencies for our Mechanical Design Engineers

  1. Previous experience in developing detailed requirements from an engineering scope.
  2. Competence in using one of the main CAD packages to produce 3D models and 2D engineering drawings.
  3. Working experience in delivering engineering direction when presented with imperfect data.
  4. Mechanical (or similar discipline) engineering degree or equivalent qualification or experience.
  5. Experience of successful fault investigation, containment, and rectification.
  6. Experience in designing for manufacture to improve quality, reduce cost, and reduce lead time without sacrificing performance.
  7. Designing from a clean sheet using first principles.

Not only are these fantastic Mechanical Design Engineer roles, but it is also a great team to work with here at Red Bull Powertrains. A good salary is just the start; there are many other benefits such as our bonus scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, workplace nursery, company-contributed pension scheme, on-site gym & fitness classes, free daily food allowance, and a cycle-to-work scheme. Above all, the job satisfaction of making a real contribution to our championship-winning grand prix cars is unmatched.
