This is your opportunity to join a forward-thinking Tier 2 civil engineering contractor, with a strong reputation in reinforced concrete (RC) frames, geotechnical engineering, and complex underground structures. Design Engineer Job Overview

  1. Tunnel & Shaft Design - Develop structurally sound and geotechnically optimized designs for various underground projects.
  2. Excavation & Ground Stability - Assess and ensure safe excavation techniques, slope stability, and shoring solutions using industry-standard geotechnical principles.
  3. Impact Assessments - Evaluate tunnelling effects on third-party assets and obtain necessary approvals from National Highways, Network Rail, etc.
  4. Technical Reporting - Prepare high-quality design reports and progress updates for stakeholders and clients.
  5. Specialist Design Work - Contribute to complex designs, including:
    1. Shaft buoyant stability, reinforced concrete bases, and cover slabs.
    2. Tunnel designs for Microtunnelling, Pipejacking, HDD, Augerbore, and Timber Headings.
    3. Earthworks and soil nailing solutions.
    4. Crane platforms and temporary works design.

Design Engineer Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geology.
  2. 3-8 years' experience in tunnel, shaft, or geotechnical/Structural design.
  3. Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, excavation methods, and tunnelling impact assessments.
  4. Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Design Engineer Salary & Benefits

  1. Salary of up to £50,000.
  2. 23 days' holiday plus 8 days Bank Holidays.
