Installation Design Project Engineer

DEPARTMENT:

Engineering Manager – UK Power Grids

Job Requirements

We have an exciting opportunity for an Installation Design Project Engineer to join our Power Grids Engineering Design Team, responsible for the design and installation of High Voltage Cable systems for a diverse range of clients.

The Engineering Design Team is part of our Utilities Business, offering services from cable supply to jointing and full turn-key installation projects.

The successful candidate will work on a large cross-country HV Cable Installation project, delivering effective, safe, and cost-efficient design solutions. They will collaborate closely with site engineers to ensure project delivery within time and budget, meeting specifications and managing risks.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

• Understanding customer requirements and relevant National Grid standards
• Risk assessment, mitigation, and management
• Understanding installation design requirements
• Compiling Project Engineering Design Packs for Site Teams
• Chairing site design review meetings and coordinating approvals
• Liaising with all teams throughout the project via meetings and communication channels
• Managing design documents and control procedures
• Managing change procedures
• Developing and tracking the design programme
• Collecting and analyzing As-Built Data

This role involves aspects of mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering, offering diversity and challenge.

Skills and Experience

Applicants should be qualified graduates in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or related fields. Key attributes include:

• Project Design Management experience
• Experience in utilities cross-country projects (advantageous)
• Risk analysis skills
• Document management and KPI reporting
• Knowledge of National Grid procedures (advantageous)
• Held National Grid CDAE Role
• Structured approach and attention to detail
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Ability to consider overall project aspects such as cost, compliance, and customer needs

The role involves office and site work. A full clean driving license is required.
