Qualifications

• Proven experience leading design teams on renewable energy/building services projects.
• Experience designing Air Source Heat Pumps and related M&E systems.
• Strong BIM knowledge and ability to drive through RIBA design stages.
• Ability to coordinate with architects, consultants and clients throughout design process.
• Experience with concept to construction delivery of projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Design Engineers.
• Own projects after handover from sales, ensuring on-time delivery.
• Produce detailed technical designs for renewable energy and M&E systems.
• Design ASHP, Solar PV, MVHR and complete M&E solutions.
• Perform heat loss/gain calculations and system sizing.
• Create detailed schematics, layouts and specifications.
• Support installation teams as technical lead and resolve queries.
• Manage workloads to meet deadlines and service levels.
• Collaborate with architects and clients throughout design process.
• Implement BIM processes aligned with RIBA stages.

Senior Design Engineer - Renewable Energy & Building Services

Location: Croydon - Hybrid

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 Basic + Performance Bonus (OTE £60,000 - £70,000)

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join a rapidly expanding renewable energy and building services specialist delivering high-end residential and commercial projects across the South East.

This is a senior technical position offering the opportunity to take ownership of the design function, lead a small team of engineers, and play a key role in delivering innovative renewable energy solutions. You'll work on prestigious projects involving heat pumps, solar PV, MVHR and complete mechanical and electrical systems, helping shape projects from concept through to construction.

Requirements

• Leading, mentoring and supporting a team of Design Engineers
• Taking ownership of projects following technical handover from the sales team
• Producing detailed technical designs for renewable energy and mechanical building services systems
• Designing Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP), Solar PV, MVHR and complete M&E solutions
• Completing heat loss and heat gain calculations, room-by-room analysis and system sizing
• Producing detailed schematics, layouts and technical specifications
• Acting as the technical lead for installation teams, providing guidance and resolving design queries
• Managing design workloads to ensure project deadlines and service levels are achieved
• Working closely with architects, consultants, contractors and clients throughout the design process
• Implementing and maintaining BIM processes while ensuring compliance with RIBA design stages

Requirements

We're looking for a technically strong Design Engineer with excellent leadership skills and experience delivering high-quality renewable energy or building services projects.

You'll ideally have:

• Proven experience designing renewable energy systems, particularly Air Source Heat Pumps
• Strong background within Building Services or Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) design
• Experience managing projects from concept through to detailed design
• Previous experience leading or mentoring engineers, or the ambition to move into a leadership role
• Excellent understanding of BIM processes and RIBA design stages
• Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and renewable energy standards

Technical Skills

Experience using one or more of the following:

• AutoCAD
• Revit
• IES
• EasyPV
• Heat loss calculation software
• Mechanical building services design packages
