Company Profile
A leading UK-based company that specialises in the design, manufacture, and supply of technologies for industrial applications is looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join their Bedford facility due to continued growth and expansion.
Job Profile
The successful Design Engineer will work within an ISO 9001 environment, carrying out all aspects of design for the manufacture of the company's mechanical products.
Duties:
- Work to ISO 9001 standards related to product design, project work, and order processing.
- Utilize and exploit the company’s 3D CAD systems (NX, Inventor, AutoCAD) to their maximum capability.
- Design for manufacture and assembly protocols. Produce 3D part models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings to current standards.
- Provide calculations for performance and safety considerations including FEA and FMEA analysis.
- Manage new product development projects as well as existing products and one-off projects, including investigation work and production of layouts and design improvements.
- Implement company Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) processes to generate cost-effective solutions.
- Produce detailed material specifications, IOM manuals, and other technical reports/documentation.
- Create and amend Bills of Material.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and participate in continuous improvement activities, including team kaizen events.
- Develop productive working relationships within the company to support and deliver work efficiently.
- Engage in activities to develop knowledge, skills, and understanding where gaps are identified.
- Promote the company's values: Respect, Professionalism, Honesty, Fairness, Ownership, and Diversity.
- Comply with organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Undertake other departmental work as assigned by the Manager, which may include practical work in testing facilities or visits to suppliers and customers in the UK and abroad.
Skills & Attributes:
- At least 5 years of related mechanical design experience within a 3D CAD environment.
- Experience with FEA software is preferred.
- Experience related to rotating machinery is preferred.
- Ability to work flexibly to meet deadlines and targets.
- A dynamic team player with a positive attitude.
Education:
- Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred.
- Minimum of Higher National Certificate/Diploma with industrial experience.
- Registered IEng is not essential but preferred.
- Experience with a 3D CAD package is essential.
Hours of Work:
- 37 hours per week
- Monday to Thursday 08:30-16:30 & Friday finish at 1 pm
