Job summary

Crcevans in Burnley is seeking an R&D Design Engineer to drive research, development, testing and continual improvement of CRC Evans equipment. You will transform concepts into manufacturable solutions using design, prototyping and validation, working with cross-functional teams to meet safety, quality and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Engineering based Degree or equivalent HNC/HND 2:2 or above.
  • Experience in mechanical and/or electro-mechanical design environments.
  • Practical exposure to manufacturing, assembly, or testing environments, desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Research and evaluate new engineering concepts, technologies, materials and manufacturing methods to support product innovation and performance improvement.
  • Design new equipment and develop improvements to existing products using 3D and 2D CAD (SolidWorks/AutoCAD), from concept through to detailed design.
  • Produce detailed component and assembly models, drawings and layouts suitable for manufacture, testing and deployment.
  • Modify and refine designs based on testing outcomes, performance data and feedback.
  • Support the build of prototypes, test rigs and development equipment.
  • Assist with functional testing, performance validation and design verification activities.
  • Produce and maintain R&D documentation including design reports, test reports, technical specifications, and development records.

The R&D Design Engineer is responsible for the research, development, testing, and continual improvement of new andexisting CRC Evans equipment and technologies. The role focuses on transforming conceptual ideas and operationalchallenges into robust, manufacturable engineering solutions through design, analysis, prototyping, and validation.Working closely with cross-functional teams, the R&D Design Engineer supports innovation initiatives, investigates newtechnologies and materials, and ensures developed solutions meet performance, safety, quality, and regulatoryrequirements prior to deployment into live projects.

Rolespecificresponsibilities
Research&ConceptDevelopment:
  • Researchandevaluatenewengineeringconcepts,technologies,materials,andmanufacturingmethodstosupportproductinnovationandperformanceimprovement.
  • Supportfeasibilitystudies,proof-of-conceptactivities,andearly-stagedesigninvestigations.
DetailedDesign:
  • Designnewequipmentanddevelopimprovementstoexistingproductsusing3Dand2DCAD(SolidWorks/AutoCAD),fromconceptthroughtodetaileddesign.
  • Producedetailedcomponentandassemblymodels,drawings,andlayoutssuitableformanufacture,testing,anddeployment.
  • Modifyandrefinedesignsbasedontestingoutcomes,performancedata,andinternal/externalfeedback.
Prototyping,TestingandValidation:
  • Supportthebuildofprototypes,testrigs,anddevelopmentequipment.

TechnicalDocumentation:
  • ProduceandmaintainR&Ddocumentationincludingdesignreports,testreports,technicalspecifications,anddevelopmentrecords
  • Supportthecreationofmanuals,technicalfilesandsparesdocumentationasdesignsmature.
ComplianceandQualityAssurance:
  • Ensurealldesignscomplywithapplicableengineeringstandards,regulatoryrequirements,andinternalqualityprocesses.
  • Supportriskassessments,FMEA activities, anddesign-for-safetyprinciples.
  • Contributetodesignreviewsandchangecontrolprocesses.

Education Required:
  • Engineering based Degree or equivalent HNC/HND 2:2 or above
Work Experience Required:
  • Experience in mechanical and/or electro-mechanical design environments
  • Experience with product development or equipment lifecycle improvement is advantageous
  • Practical exposure to manufacturing, assembly, or testing environments, desirable.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
  • Strong working knowledge of 3D CAD (modelling, assemblies, drawings, FEA), preferably SolidWorks.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, material properties, and design limitations.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to novel challenges.
  • Understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical systems, desirable.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office for reporting and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks through the development lifecycle.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts clearly to varied audiences.
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet development deadlines
