Job purpose:
- Reporting to the Commercial Manager, as the Design Development Engineer, you will create engineering solutions aligned with Eden's manufacturing and outsourced capabilities, incorporating voice of the customer requirements and demonstrating an understanding of retail and consumer insights through brand representation.
- You will liaise closely with customers and account managers to understand the design brief, manufacturing, and sourcing, ensuring all deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines.
- Working to tight deadlines, you must convert design briefs into engaging and compelling design solutions.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Support the sales team and other departments to meet and understand customer design development needs.
- Produce innovative, engaging, and functional design solutions that exceed customer expectations.
- Manage the entire project/prototype process to gain customer approval, including prototype production.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and customers to ensure prototypes are created within timelines, specifications, and expectations.
- Use a design development tracker to manage workload, meet deadlines, and communicate progress.
- Document and share best practices in design development.
- Be prepared for national and international travel as needed, sometimes on short notice.
Required competencies and experience:
- Proficiency in CAD software like INVENTOR, with 3-5 years of experience.
- Experience with mixed material solutions, including metals, timber, plastics, glass, and graphics.
- Proven ability to produce high-quality, accurate CAD drawings that clearly communicate design intent.
- Strong planning, organizational, communication, and customer relationship management skills.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Strong time management skills and organizational abilities.
- Positive, driven, energetic team player with professional ambition.
- Self-motivated, independent, and solution-oriented.
- Confident in articulating engineering design ideas.
Location:
We have two sites: one in Wellingborough (Northamptonshire) and a manufacturing facility in Aberdare, South Wales. Candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance from either location.
