Matchtech is seeking an experienced Design Coordinator/On-site Design Manager for a contract role in the rail sector. The role supports HS2 MWCC during the construction phase, coordinating discipline teams, producing design deliverables, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate will have a civil engineering or related degree, rail design experience, and professional membership. The position requires on-site collaboration with construction teams and strong stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

  • Experience in civil engineering and design within the rail industry.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
  • Chartered status with ICE, CIOB, or RIBA (desirable).
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver project outcomes on time, within budget, and to client specifications.
  • Coordinate project technical discipline teams to meet all requirements.
  • Produce technically sound design solutions in line with reporting and cost estimating.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant technical standards.
  • Provide guidance to staff and pursue professional development.
  • Develop design deliverables (drawings, reports, specifications) per standards and client needs.
  • Liaise with construction teams to ensure buildability and value for money.
  • Develop and maintain hazard/risk registers for design packages.
  • Prepare and check engineering designs, calculations, and manage design production.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations (CDM).
  • Handle project administration and reporting to Design/Engineering Manager.
  • Maintain client and third-party liaison and develop strong relationships.

Our client, a distinguished consultancy in the rail sector, currently seeks a Design Coordinator/On-site Design Manager to join their team for an exciting contract position. This opportunity involves supporting HS2 MWCC with a concentration on the Construction Phase Support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Delivering all specified project outcomes on time, within budget, and to the client's specifications
  • Coordinating project technical discipline teams to ensure all technical requirements are fully met
  • Producing technically sound design solutions in line with reporting and cost estimating, within programme timelines and budget
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant technical standards
  • Providing advice and guidance to staff and actively pursuing professional development
  • Developing design deliverables (drawings, reports, specifications) in accordance with relevant standards and client requirements
  • Liaising with construction teams to ensure designs are buildable and value for money
  • Developing and maintaining hazard/risk registers for allocated design packages
  • Preparing and checking engineering designs, calculations, and managing design production
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations
  • Handling project administration and reporting to the Design or Engineering Manager
  • Maintaining client and third-party liaison and developing strong client relationships
Job Requirements:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field
  • Experience in civil engineering and design within the rail industry
  • Chartered status with ICE, CIOB, or RIBA (desirable)
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies
  • Strong understanding of Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards
  • Proficiency in developing design deliverables and managing design production
  • Ability to communicate effectively with construction teams and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
