Description

As a member of the Global Real Estate & Facilities (GREF) team, this position will develop and deliver strategies for managing design and construction project staff, standardize practices for all corporate leased and owned projects, and support Amazon’s EMEA-based Corporate Real Estate. The successful candidate must operate strategically and tactically, acting as a visionary, ambassador, educator, analyst, solutions architect, and implementer. The D&C Manager partners with the EMEA Design Manager to ensure timely design work that meets customer expectations while adhering to budget and schedule constraints.

Provide leadership and management of corporate office construction and renovation projects. Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to determine objectives, scope, space allocation, costs, priorities, and sequencing. Oversee project managers and manage contractor performance to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and compliant with standards and regulations. Offer technical guidance on engineering and design issues, acting as the final decision-maker.

The ideal candidate is an experienced professional who thrives in an entrepreneurial culture, providing vision, leadership, and communication, with a willingness to engage in detailed aspects of projects. They should understand client and vendor relationships, balancing frugality with innovation.

Key job responsibilities

  • Represent GREF to internal and external customers regarding office space delivery.
  • Manage teams of project managers, architects, design consultants, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure decisions align with Amazon’s priorities.
  • Develop project strategies, allocate resources, and oversee project execution to ensure timely completion and successful space transfer.
  • Guide design aspects, including space planning, finishes, and systems.
  • Manage construction activities, including contractor selection, negotiations, budgeting, change management, and scheduling.
  • Evaluate and approve design changes and oversee project budgets and vendor management.
  • Influence design standards and assist in evaluating prospective office lease spaces.
  • Collaborate with Procurement to identify cost-saving opportunities and negotiate with landlords on possession and defect issues.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Significant experience in Real Estate Development, Architecture/Design, or Construction Management
  • Experience managing a team within a startup or entrepreneurial environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, MS Project, Dropbox, and SharePoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in construction management, business administration, engineering, architecture, interior design, or similar; or equivalent professional experience
  • Proficiency in German language
  • Understanding of sourcing, building systems, vendor management, and customer service
  • Familiarity with architectural plans and legal contract terms
  • Experience working in a multi-country EMEA environment
