BUSINESS FUNCTION: Programmes GRADE: ML2/SB2 SALARY: £56,512 to £69,752 per annum ROLE TYPE: Hybrid HOURS: 37 per week

Is quality assurance ‘Your Thing'? We are looking for a Design Construction Manager to ensure the implementation of Northern's systems and procedures to deliver a cost-effective, high quality and safe approach to design, construction, commissioning, and compliance to relevant standards & legislation.

About the role: Your role will oversee the programme design and construction activities, helping to maintain standards throughout the project lifecycle. You will define and develop the team's processes and management systems and provide guidance where needed to the project teams.

You will play a key role to ensure that industry standards and specifications are incorporated within design and construction contracts, and monitor that these are complied with throughout the life of the project. Reporting into the Project Director, this position is key to implementing and sustaining positive changes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring projects adhere to relevant legislation, standards, and regulations, maintaining a safe and environmentally responsible approach.
  • Ensuring infrastructure projects meet industry standards and specifications, incorporating them into design and construction contracts.
  • Providing engineering advice to maintain high-quality standards throughout design, construction, testing, and commissioning phases, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Supporting project managers in assessing and monitoring the competence and performance of consultants, contractors, and personnel to ensure quality outputs.
  • Monitoring and enforcing safety compliance across projects, including safety management systems and incident investigations.
  • Overseeing site team activities, ensuring adequate resource allocation and quality assurance during construction phases, including close monitoring of contractor delivery quality.
About You:

You will have significant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in design & construction projects across multi-discipline areas in the rail industry.

We're also looking for the following:

  • Technical qualification to degree level or equivalent
  • Appreciation of environmental issues in construction
  • Experience of working with design houses and delivery organisations/delivery partners
  • Evidenced team working and using initiative, with excellent communication skills
