A leading construction firm in Glasgow is seeking a Design Associate to manage the design process for carpentry works. The successful candidate will lead a team, ensuring compliance with standards and liaising with clients on design intent. Applicants should possess strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and relevant experience in interior design.
Responsibilities Design Associate (Carpentry work)
1. Project Design Management
• Lead and manage the full design process for carpentry works (e.g., wardrobes, cabinets, kitchen sets, counters, feature walls).
• Interpret client briefs and translate into functional, buildable designs.
• Coordinate with sales, project, and production teams to ensure design feasibility and buildability.
2. Technical Detailing
• Prepare or review detailed drawings, joinery details, and material specifications using AutoCAD/SketchUp/Revit or similar.
• Ensure compliance with local building codes, fire safety, and design standards.
3. Team Leadership & Supervision
• Manage a team of in-house or outsourced designers/drafters.
• Review and approve shop drawings before submission to clients and production.
4. Client and Stakeholder Liaison
• Attend meetings with clients, consultants, and site personnel to clarify design intent and resolve technical issues.
• Present design concepts and manage feedback.
5. Coordination & Quality Assurance
• Coordinate design changes between client, QS, production, and site installation teams.
• Ensure design documentation is accurate, updated, and issued on time.
6. Material and Product Knowledge
• Stay updated with carpentry materials, fittings (e.g., Blum, Hafele), finishes (laminates, veneers, spray paints), and sustainable solutions.
• Recommend appropriate materials based on aesthetics, durability, and cost.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Diploma/Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in carpentry or interior fit-out design.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar.
• Strong technical knowledge in joinery and fabrication methods.
• Good leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
