Job summary

Tesco is seeking an Assistant Designer for the Papershop team to turn trend-led inspiration into innovative prints and product concepts for Paperchase and Tesco brands. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers, supporting the design journey from idea to launch.

You’ll contribute to design direction, research trends, and help deliver must-haves and seasonal products, while supporting in range design and colour storytelling to drive sales.

Qualifications

• BA degree in Design or equivalent.
• Portfolio demonstrating creative thinking.
• Proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop; InDesign and Procreate experience are a bonus.
• Previous hand illustration experience welcomed.

Responsibilities

• Providing design, product development and sampling support to keep the team running smoothly.
• Proactive communications with the buying and design teams, creating awareness of emerging trends, product categories and colours.
• Conducting customer and competitor research to inform your designs, create reports to share within design team meetings.
• Contributing to the department's design direction, identifying core lines, key statements and colours to drive sales.
• Understanding best and worst lines to influence seasonal strategy and product opportunities.
• Supporting in designing balanced ranges and understanding range principles.
• Assisting in delivering must-haves and seasonal/trend products for our customer.
• Resolving day-to-day operational issues/queries, escalating where appropriate.
• Assisting your manager by designing the correct number of options to meet department needs.
• Compiling brief packs to achieve right-first-time quality buying samples.
• Playing your role in delivering the design component of the General Merchandise critical path.

Bring your creativity to life as an Assistant Designer in our Papershop team. • Experience in a creative design role, with a portfolio that demonstrates your skills and creative thinking.
• A BA degree in Design (product, fashion, furniture, textiles, surface pattern, decorative arts) or equivalent experience gained through another route.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; MS Office, InDesign and Procreate experience are a bonus.
