Job description

As the Design Assistant, you will support the Designer and Creative Director in executing the seasonal vision for La Coqueta’s collections. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to gain hands-on experience in the luxury childrenswear industry. You will assist with both creative and administrative tasks across all stages of the design process, playing a key role in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations within the Design Team.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Design Support: Assist design team in the creation and development of the range, including research, concept development, and design execution.This will include preparation of mood boards, sketchbooks, and presentation materials for internal meetings.
  • Trend Research: Support trend and market analysis and competitor research to help inform design decisions, to inform seasonal themes, shapes, and fabrics.
  • Fabrics Development: Assist with fabric and trim sourcing, maintaining material libraries and design archives. Manage exclusive fabric development ensuring trackers are maintained and critical path deadlines met.
  • Sketching & Tech Packs: Create designs, both hand drawn and CADs. Maintain design through updating CADs, colour-ups, and technical drawings using Adobe Illustrator as required. Support the preparation of tech packs and other technical design documentation. Create and maintain seasonal specs ensuring distribution to all relevant parties including supply base.
  • Sample Development: Coordinate the sample development process, track progress liaising with suppliers and factories under the guidance of the Designer, ensuring designs align with the brief and meet quality standards and critical path is adhered to.
  • Fit Sessions: Organise fit sessions, ensuring the are run efficiently, making note of any required amendments and distribute, call out team any risks or issues.
  • Critical Path: Ensure timelines are followed and design projects remain on track against the critical path.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the design, buying, and merchandising teams to ensure designs meet the brief and commercial needs, contributing to team discussions and brainstorming sessions.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with various administrative tasks such as maintaining design files, updating critical path documents, spec sheets, fabric trackers, and preparing presentations. Take accountability for organisational tasks such as shipping samples, tracking deliveries, and ensuring studio organisation maintained at all time.

Key Skills

  • A relevant degree or diploma in Fashion Design or similar.
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; familiarity with Excel and InDesign is a plus.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A good understanding of garment construction and an interest in luxury childrenswear.
  • Ability to multitask, take initiative, and work effectively in a small team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Knowledge of Spanish is desirable but not essential.

Desired Skills

  • A passion for luxury childrenswear and a strong appreciation for La Coqueta’s brand identity and aesthetic.
  • Strong visual and creative sensibility with an eye for colour, proportion, and detail.
  • Knowledge of fabrics, trims, and garment construction techniques.
  • Confidence using Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop; InDesign is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of fashion market trends, with a willingness to research and present findings.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Experience or coursework in technical drawing, CAD, or tech packs is an advantage.
