Job summary

Avanti Fields School is seeking a skilled Design and Technology Technician to support practical teaching across Design Technology and Food Technology. You will prepare materials, maintain equipment, and provide technical support to ensure safe, well-organised lessons.

You will work with staff to assist examinations, projects, and department development. The role requires proactive, reliable individuals who can manage stock and liaise with suppliers.

Qualifications

• Educated to GCSE including English, mathematics and science.
• Working knowledge of Design Technology machines and processes.
• Experience and excellent track record in health and safety in a support role.
• The ability to make decisions in consultation with the Class Teacher and colleagues as appropriate.
• Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all students.

Responsibilities

• Prepare materials, equipment, tools and practical resources for Design Technology and Food Technology lessons, including creating jigs, formers and specialist set-ups as required.
• Provide practical support, advice and demonstrations to pupils and staff, helping them use equipment and resources safely and effectively.
• Maintain, repair and organise tools, machinery and equipment, manage stock levels and orders, and liaise with suppliers and manufacturers where required.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, cleanliness and organisation across workshops, classrooms and preparation areas, including developing and maintaining appropriate risk assessments and safe storage arrangements.
• Support the wider Technology department with practical examinations, displays, ICT equipment and GCSE practical work, including additional professional duties during particularly busy periods.

About us and the role

Avanti Fields School is seeking a skilled and committed Design and Technology Technician to play an important role in supporting high-quality practical teaching across our Design Technology and Food Technology departments.

Working closely with teaching staff, you will prepare practical resources, maintain specialist equipment and workshops, and provide technical support to ensure lessons are safe, well organised and purposeful. You will have the opportunity to use your practical and technical expertise across a varied role, supporting everything from day-to-day practical lessons and equipment maintenance to examinations, projects and the wider development of the department.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in their practical work and enjoys playing a key role in creating an effective learning environment for pupils. Your organisation, attention to detail and commitment to high standards will help ensure that teachers have the resources and support they need to deliver successful practical lessons.
