Job description

Applicants are invited to apply for a speciality doctor CESR (portfolio pathway) training post in Dermatology. The post is for 10 PAs, but applications for flexible working are welcome. We seek an enthusiastic and resilient speciality doctor who wishes to undertake the CESR (portfolio pathway) in dermatology.

The successful applicant would join a forward-looking, expanding dermatology team that is exploring innovative ways to address the rising local demand across Torbay & South Devon.

The department has experience guiding applicants successfully through the CESR process. The post aims to provide the necessary support and training to complete all aspects of the CESR process successfully.

There will be opportunities for the post holder to rotate to a neighbouring Trust to meet relevant educational and training needs.

The post is ideally suited for a doctor planning to complete formal dermatology specialist training within the next 4-6 years.

We are looking for a committed, team-oriented individual keen to learn, preferably with some experience in dermatology at secondary care level.

Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC, hold a licence to practice, and have completed Core Specialty training.

A pre-interview visit to the department is strongly encouraged.

For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Hannah Cookson, Clinical Lead – Consultant Dermatologist, at hannah.cookson1@nhs.net.

The job involves a varied timetable including skin cancer clinics, skin surgery, and medical dermatology. The successful applicant will work alongside other CESR trainees and a specialist registrar, with supervision from five consultants and a regular teaching program. Engagement with regional and national dermatology training events and educational meetings is encouraged. The post is full-time with no on-call requirements.

The Dermatology Department offers general dermatology, urgent suspected skin cancer clinics, dedicated paediatric clinics, skin surgery, patch testing, and photodynamic therapy. The service receives approximately 11,000 referrals annually. The phototherapy unit is equipped with UVB, PUVA (bath and oral), Hand and foot PUVA, and topical treatments. A bi-monthly day-case surgical list for complex skin surgery is provided at Teignmouth Hospital by Dr Ng and Dr Walker.

We provide nurse-led clinics for eczema and psoriasis management, cytotoxic monitoring, follow-up of isotretinoin, skin cancer, and skin surgery. A community-based health visitor trained in dermatology offers an invaluable nurse-led service for infants and children under 5 with atopic eczema, integrating with our nurse practitioner and community nurse-led services.

Torbay Hospital is geographically close to Exeter and collaborates closely with colleagues at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, both in Plastic Surgery and Dermatology. Regular LSMDT and SSMDT discussions take place in Exeter. Monthly regional dermatology meetings and bi-monthly local complex case clinics are scheduled.

Why work with us? Full vacancy details are available in the attached Job Description/Person Specification. Please assess your suitability based on the role requirements and person specification in your supporting information.
